Empowering communities through Financial Leadership: A glimpse into the CIBA National Roadshow

The Chartered Institute for Business Accountants (CIBA) recently embarked on a transformative journey with its national roadshow, themed "Army of Accountants: Operation Boosting Business". This initiative, rooted in CIBA’s core vision, aimed to reshape the financial landscape of communities across Southern Africa.

The Vision and the Journey

In the heart of every visionary lies a dream. For CIBA, that dream paints a vivid picture of a future where every school board, church committee, policing forum, sports club, community group, NGO, association, political party branch, TVET college, and business chamber and SME is financially steered by a CIBA designated accountant.

CIBA envisage a Southern Africa blanketed in a vibrant hue of CIBA green, symbolising the resurgence and rejuvenation of communities that have faced the brunt of prolonged lockdowns, state capture, and poor service delivery. Together with local communities we can rebuild and reclaim a prosperous future.

The Roadshow Highlights

Spanning 11 cities, from Johannesburg to Cape Town, the roadshow acted as a nexus between diverse groups like businesses, non-profit entities, SMEs, and accountants. With CIBA’s comprehensive toolkit, members got an accelerated pathway to business enhancement. The roadshow not only provided a platform for networking but also equipped participants with firsthand insights into the challenges faced by SMEs and NPOs, shaping accountants’ service offerings.

Key partnerships were forged with organisations like the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SACCI), representing over 72,000 members in business, and the National NPO Network (ANNET), representing over 25,000 non-profit organisations. These collaborations aimed to bridge the information gap created by recent legislative changes, ensuring that SMEs and NPOs are equipped to navigate the evolving regulatory landscape.

Towards a Brighter Future

Our envisioned army of volunteer treasurers will shoulder a monumental responsibility. Beyond the meticulous task of maintaining books, accounting for every Rand, and optimising financial systems, they will play a pivotal role in galvanising communities towards reconstruction and growth.

Guided by the timeless teachings from books like Dale Carnegie's "How to Win Friends and Influence People", Jordan Peterson's works, and Saul Alinsky’s insights, we understand the transformative power of volunteerism. Alinsky's "Rules for Radicals", underscores the potential of grassroots movements to overhaul economic and social infrastructures.

Our upcoming Practice Management Conference will be built on the Roadshows as it presents an opportunity to grasp the nuances of managing effective firms, a cornerstone for our larger vision. We urge you to immerse yourself in the insights shared by our presenters and experts.
