New Verification Hurdles: Insights from CIPC

In a continuous effort to safeguard customer information, the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC) has introduced an a new verification process customers need to undertake, that has, admittedly, met with some challenges. After members encountering verification difficulties CIBA communicated with CIPC requesting guidance. Below is the information CIPC provided with instructions to ease the process.

The verification process mandates real-time validation of ID and security question answers with the Department of Home Affairs (DHA), a step critical for the protection of customer profile information. Recognising the hiccups in this process, CIPC advises on two primary issues members might face:

  1. Connection Delays with DHA: Should there be any trouble establishing a connection for ID and security question verification, members are advised to persist. The optimal times for verification are early mornings and late afternoons, taking advantage of higher uptime connections with DHA.

  2. Incorrect Details Notification: If members receive a message prompting to ‘capture the correct details’, it might be due to discrepancies in DHA's records. To rectify this, the impacted individuals should contact CIPC via email at enquiries@cipc.co.za. This action prompts an ICT department intervention to override the issue. Furthermore, it's recommended to visit DHA for record correction.

Troubleshooting Tips: For those experiencing persistent issues, CIPC recommends a series of steps to potentially resolve the problem:

  • Refresh your browser, and clear all temporary files and cookies before attempting the process again.

  • Consider switching platforms; if you're on BizPortal, try using e-Services instead.

  • If challenges persist, reach out to CIPC through enquiries@cipc.co.za for personalized assistance.

This guidance is part of CIPC's commitment to ensuring a seamless verification process for its members. Accounting Weekly urges all members facing these verification issues to follow the detailed instructions provided by CIPC, ensuring a smoother and more efficient verification process.
