What time do you usually wake up on weekends?

6:30 AM

Are you an early bird or a night owl?

Early bird

How do you spend the first hour of your day?

Getting ready and grabbing a cup of coffee on my way out of the door to start the day.

What sparked your interest in accounting or finance?

In my youth, I was always drawn to finance, fascinated by how money works and the impact it has on people's lives. However, it wasn't until I gained practical experience that I truly understood how I could make a difference. Working with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) opened my eyes to the unique challenges they face. I realized that by providing sound accounting advice and strategic financial planning, I could help these businesses not only save money but also thrive in competitive environments.

Can you share some key career milestones or defining moments?

One of my career highlights has been the opportunity to work closely with elderly business owners who were nearing retirement. I remember a particular case where I helped a couple who had built their business over several decades. They were concerned about how to transition their company smoothly while ensuring their legacy and financial security. Seeing their relief and gratitude when we developed a solid exit strategy was a defining moment for me.

How do you build strong relationships with your clients?

I believe that being approachable and relatable is crucial. By positioning myself as a partner rather than an authority figure, I create a collaborative atmosphere where clients feel comfortable sharing their concerns and aspirations.

What are some future goals for your firm?

One of my primary future goals for the firm is to provide cost-effective accounting solutions tailored specifically for SMEs and individuals who may find larger firms out of reach financially. Another goal is to enhance our client education efforts, empowering clients with the knowledge they need to make informed financial decisions.

What’s next on your professional journey?

I aim to expand my expertise in financial technology and advisory services, enabling me to provide even more value to my clients. By embracing lifelong learning, I’m positioning my firm to deliver innovative and effective solutions.

Share your strategies for staying balanced, especially during busy periods.

I set clear boundaries around my work hours and make a conscious effort to unplug during personal time. Though it’s challenging, I find that being intentional about my time is crucial for balance.

What do you enjoy outside of work?

When I’m off the clock, I love spending quality time with friends and family, sharing laughs and keeping things in perspective.

Do you mentor or support other team members in the finance department?

I contribute to the development of others by engaging in discussions with a group of fellow accountants. We regularly share insights and challenges, creating a collaborative environment for growth.

What advice would you give to someone aspiring to start their own accounting practice?

My advice is simple: just start! It’s crucial to ensure you’re well-versed in relevant tax laws and regulations to build your credibility and effectively serve clients.

What’s your favourite quote or mantra that motivates you?

Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success.

Share a leadership lesson or a piece of advice that’s been valuable to you in your career.

Leadership isn’t solely about being at the top; it’s a team effort. Success comes from collaboration with employees, family, and friends.

What’s something surprising about you that isn’t in your professional bio?

I love sleeping, even though I rarely get enough of it! There’s so much fun happening around me that I often choose to stay awake and enjoy life instead.

If you could have any superpower to help you in your job, what would it be?

Superspeed. It would allow me to complete tasks in record time, stay ahead of deadlines, and provide even more efficient service to my clients.

What’s your go-to strategy for staying productive during long workdays?

My go-to strategy during tax season is a good cup of coffee and maintaining a positive attitude. A healthy dose of caffeine, paired with a can-do mindset, helps keep my energy levels up.

If you could relive one day from your career, which day would it be and why?

The day I passed my board exam and ranked in the Top 10 in December 2021. It was a pivotal moment that validated all the hard work and sacrifices I made during those challenging years of study.
