It only costs R67 to light up Tshepang Care Centre

Saiba teamed up with the Round Table Jukskei 217 branch to light up the Tshepang Care Centre in Tembisa, near Joburg.

Saiba has adopted Tshepang Care Centre and each year on Mandela Day – South Africa’s national day of sharing and sacrifice – makes donations in the form of gifts or essential requirements to the Centre.

This year was no different, though the focus in 2021 is on lighting up Tshepang.

The “light-up Tshepang” project is aimed at installing solar power at the Centre to reduce the reliance on candles and other dangerous methods for lighting and warmth.

Project leader Wesley de Kock highlighted the importance of this project and how it will benefit the Centre.

“Tshepang is in dire need of lighting for security and warmth.  I believe that we should invest in improving the lives of these children and offer them safety and security during the cold winter months by providing them with electricity. This will allow the library to function with a computer, and the creche to function with a TV. The upskilling centre will be able to start sewing classes and generate a return on this investment which can be used to sustain the Centre. The project will provide light and security during the winter months, instead of having to rely on candles and outside floodlighting. This is what it is about – creating a better future.”

On Mandela Day, all South Africans are asked to donate 67 minutes to an organisation of their choice. Similarly, Saiba and Round Table are asking you to donate R67 to the cause. One thousand donations of R67 each are needed to make this project a success.

Those who can donate more than that, they are welcome to do so. The lighting ceremony will be held in August 2021 at Tshepang Care Centre and those who want to donate food, blankets and other essential goods are invited to join Saiba and Round Table for the lighting ceremony. Date to be announced.
