Can smaller firms learn from key L&D trends in bigger firms?
The Accounting Excellence Awards 2018 highlighted some important key trends at medium and large firms. One of the most noteworthy trends is the sudden surge in the importance of L&D. This trend emerged for the first time in 2017 at 16% and again in 2018 at 24% in a recent survey by ACCA.
Entitled Generation Next, the survey reached more than 19000 professionals from the top 10 global firms. The results show that accounting and finance roles are viewed as attractive and in addition, provides individuals with an opportunity to develop a wider skillset.
Cloud based applications and tools together with a global movement towards a digital tax era means that accountants have the need and opportunity to acquire skills that will enhance their roles. This in turn will have a positive impact on their overall job satisfaction.
In an article that first appeared on accountingweb, author Richard Sergeant examines the growing trend of big firms investing more and more into L&D. He also challenges smaller firms to examine the trend and suggests they follow suit.
