Saiba’s Zanele Madlingozi recognised as one of Top 50 Women in Accounting

In 2018, Practice ignition launched the ‘Top 50 Women in Accounting’ as a way to honour and recognise women who are driving change and creating opportunities for the next generation within the accounting and bookkeeping sector.

Fifty women were selected out of more than 1,200 nominees across the globe in 2020, based on their passion for bringing change, advocacy, and community in their workplace and beyond.

One of the winners is Saiba’s very own Zanele Madlingozi BAP(SA), who was thrust forward by business colleagues.

The six judges responsible for the selection focused on the following criteria:

  • Dedication to promoting inclusivity and diversity in the workplace
  • Investment in the next generation and the future leaders of accounting
  • Advocacy of the accounting industry and support of the wider community.

On 15 March 2021, the Top 50 Women in Accounting were announced and Madlingozi part of that elite club. She spoke to Accounting Weekly about the award and what it means to her.

“Women are underrepresented in the accounting field, which means they have to work extra hard to prove themselves. This (award) means a lot. As that woman, I intend to give other women a voice, pave a way for them and inspire them to do much greater.”

What does receiving the award mean to you?

“I am very much happy and honoured to be part of the 50 Top Women in Accounting. With so many nominees, coming out at the top is amazing to me. I entered the competition not just as a woman, but as a Saiba representative as well. My Business Accountant in Practice BAP(SA) designation played a big role and I believe it influenced my victory.

“The recognition will be of great assistance in helping me achieve my long-term goal. As I am still doing my articles, it is a great win for my future and career. I make sure that I invest time in myself after working hours to continue building myself and improving on myself to be the woman I aspire, the women who inspire others as well.”

Saiba is very proud to have one of its own being recognised at the pinnacle of accounting success, hopes to see more women who are part of the Saiba family inspiring others and making their mark in the accounting world.
