The countdown has started to Saiba’s two-day Practice Management Conference (PMC) which takes place on the 15th and 16th September, to be followed by a 26-city Saiba roadshow across the country.
The purpose of the PMC and the 26-city roadshow is to assist Saiba members build sustainable and prosperous accounting practices. Never before has Saiba hosted a 26-city roadshow (see details below). The purpose is to create networking opportunities between members, local government and potential partners across the country.
The PMC will be held across two channels: physically and online. A limited number of seats are available for the physical event, which will be held at Maslow Time Square in Pretoria over two days. For those unable to attend in person, the event will be streamed online.
The keynote address for the first day (15 September) will be given by Mark Lloydbottom, founder, Ignite Practice Management, who will address some of the emerging trends in the profession and the new norms that are developing as a result of the pandemic. This presentation is critical for all accountants in practice who want to stay on top of international best practices.
“This year’s PMC is structured to prepare our members for the task that lies ahead, which is to rebuild the economy from the damage caused by the Covid lockdowns, and for accountants in practice to assume their rightful position as leaders of economic recovery,” says Nicolaas van Wyk, CEO of Saiba.
The rate at which the accounting profession is changing is accelerating, both in terms of technological developments and in terms of client engagement.
Another key theme to be examined at the PMC is the evolving legal and economic environment in which accountants operate. This will form the basis of a panel discussion moderated by Phumlani Majozi, Senior Fellow at African Liberty, with panelists Rory Voller, Commissioner of the Companies and Intellectual Properties Commission (CIPC); Amy Jones, director at Truter Jones, Mike Mbaya, partner at Mbaya & Associates in Kenya; and Councillor Mare-Lise Fourie, head of finance for the City of Tshwane.
Tamryn Dicks of Pharsyde Accounting and Hiten Keshave of Qalisa Hub will run through the steps you need to take to properly plan and build your practice.
Adriaan Basson of Wingman Accounting will then explore different accounting practice models, and how to use networks to grow and expand your practice.
Russel Ngobeni, MD of Shinyawani Group of Companies will lead a panel discussion on the do’s and don’ts of growing your firm, and what to do when growth hits a ceiling.
The afternoon session on the 15th kicks off with Coenie Middel of Middel & Partners will look at how one infuses one’s business with a culture of innovation.
This will be followed by a detailed look at the range of technologies now available to accountants, from cloud accounting to the internet of things (IoT) mobile applications, social media, blockchain, and artificial intelligence and robotics. This session will be moderated by Nicole Rousseau, co-founder of PKF Ignite.
Further sessions will deal with client relationship management, expand your client base and how to charge correctly without getting beaten down by clients.
The final two sessions of the day will explore risk management for an accounting practice, and properly identifying these risks so they can be mitigated, followed by a session on succession planning.
Day 2 of the PMC will build on the groundwork laid on Day 1, and will focus on planning your practice and building it into a successful and thriving enterprise.
