Members of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) in South Africa can now become registered auditors. This opportunity follows the official accreditation of the ACCA qualification by South Africa's auditing authority, the Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors (IRBA) last year.

This new pathway is open to existing ACCA members, affiliates, and students, offering them exciting career opportunities. It's also appealing for those considering a career in accountancy, combining the benefits of a globally respected qualification with the chance to gain registered auditor status in South Africa.

To achieve this status, ACCA members must enroll in IRBA’s 18-month Audit Development Programme (ADP). This program requires specific experience with an ACCA Approved Employer and passing certain ACCA exams. This structured route offers a clear path for those at any stage of their accounting career, aiming to enhance their qualifications and career prospects. Portia Mkhabela, head of ACCA in Southern Africa, highlighted the positive impact this will have on the audit profession, making accounting a more attractive field and strengthening the talent pool.
