I wake up at 9:00 AM.

I’m a night owl.

How do you spend the first hour of your morning?
Checking emails and walking on the treadmill.

What sparked your interest in accounting or finance?
My fascination with accounting began during my school days, where I discovered a passion for the subject. This early interest has since evolved into a desire to build a career in accounting.

Can you share some key career milestones or defining moments?
Some career milestones have been the successful conversion from my traineeship into a permanent role at PKF Durban following the completion of my articles and subsequently transitioning to Johnston Carmichael, where I gained international exposure and global perspectives. A defining moment for me has also been completing my Professional Accountant certification.

What is your role within your company’s finance department?
I work as a Group Accountant, collaborating with a talented team to deliver financial services within our organisation.

What is one of the biggest challenges you’ve faced in your role? How did you overcome it?
One of the most significant challenges I encountered in my previous role was managing multiple competing deadlines. To overcome this, I implemented a task management strategy to prioritise urgent tasks and focus on sequential completion. This helped me deliver results under pressure and meet deadlines effectively.

What tools or strategies do you use to manage the financial operations of the company effectively?
I've implemented a task management strategy that enables me to deliver results timeously.

How do you stay balanced during busy periods?
Some of my strategies include prioritising tasks using calendars and planners, taking breaks when I feel mentally exhausted, and setting boundaries where necessary.

What do you enjoy outside of work?
Reading fiction novels and going to a spa.

What advice would you give to aspiring finance professionals?
To succeed in a finance department, it's best to always stay on top of technical knowledge and keep up with regular changes to accounting standards. Good communication skills are needed in any environment to manage workload, create a positive working experience, and aid in your own development as well as the development of others.

Share a leadership lesson or piece of advice that’s been valuable in your career.
Maintaining a proactive approach and always being open to learning has been crucial in my career development.

What’s something surprising about you that isn’t in your professional bio?
Something surprising about me, which also surprises myself, is that I absolutely love being an aunt and babysitting.

If you could have any superpower to help you in your job, what would it be?
Time manipulation.
