Important Update for Tax Practitioners: Use the Correct eFiling Profile

SARS has reminded tax practitioners to use their tax practitioner’s profile when assisting clients on eFiling. This ensures compliance and enhances efficiency by allowing practitioners to:

  • Activate multiple taxpayers under the practitioner’s portfolio.

  • Group taxpayers for easier management and reference.

  • Assign descriptive names to taxpayer groups.

Portfolio Types

On eFiling, users can act in different roles referred to as Portfolio Types, such as:

  • Individual: Managing one’s own taxes.

  • Tax Practitioner: Acting on behalf of clients with a signed Power of Attorney (POA).

  • Organisation: Representing a tax-paying entity, such as a public officer or executor.

Do Not Work Via Clients’ Efiling Profile

Tax practitioners are prohibited from using clients’ eFiling login details, as this constitutes misrepresentation and breaches the Electronic Communications Act, 2005. Instead, practitioners should always use their designated profile and encourage shared access with clients to promote transparency.
