SARS TP Connect Issue 59 – Key Updates for Tax Practitioners
SARS has released its latest TP Connect (Issue 59 – January 2025) with important updates for tax practitioners and accountants.
Key Highlights
Use Only Registered Tax Practitioners – SARS warns against unregistered individuals offering tax services. Taxpayers can verify a practitioner’s registration online using the online look-up feature.
Beware of Refund Scams – Fraudsters are sending fake SARS refund messages. Always check on the Scams & Phishing webpage for verification.
Tax Exempt Institutions – New resources and videos available on the SARS website for tax-exempt entities.
Medical Indemnity Insurance – Medical practitioners can claim insurance premiums as a business expense in the ITR12 return under “Insurance” expense field. However, payouts received from these policies are fully taxable. Insurance receipts should be included in the “Local Business, Trade and Professional Income” section of the ITR12 return, the total amount inserted in the “Income Other Than Turnover” field.
SARS MobiApp Enhancements – Two new features:
My Auto Assessment Status – Check if you were selected for an auto-assessment.
Tax Return Status Dashboard – Track your income tax return progress from submission to refund.
The following guides were updated: Services Offered via the SARS MobiApp and How to Submit Your Individual Income Tax Return via the SARS MobiApp.
Stronger Security on eFiling – SARS now requires two-factor authentication (2FA) for all users, plus stricter password rules for better protection.
IT150 Registration Notice Now on WhatsApp – Taxpayers can request their Notice of Registration (IT150) via WhatsApp (0800 11 7277), ensuring faster service. Refer to the updated guide to SARS Mobile Tax Services.
