Tax Ombud Launches "Be A Smart Taxpayer" Campaign
On 1 October 2024, the Office of the Tax Ombud (OTO) launched its annual awareness campaign themed "Be A Smart Taxpayer."
Be A Smart Taxpayer
Being a smart taxpayer goes beyond just filing your taxes on time and making sure the numbers are correct. It means fully understanding your tax rights and responsibilities, using resources wisely, and following the law. It's about knowing how to take advantage of legal benefits and being proactive in managing your tax matters. In short, it's about being informed and confident in handling your taxes effectively.
The OTO Campaign
The campaign’s objective is to promote awareness of taxpayers rights - including utilising the services of the OTO - and encouraging tax compliance. The initiative emphasises a holistic approach to managing tax obligations, focusing on knowledge, efficiency, and legal optimisation of benefits.
The campaign includes a week-long activation event at Eastgate Shopping Centre, Johannesburg, from 22-28 October, where taxpayers can lodge complaints or check the status of their cases.
Inform Your Clients
This is an opportunity for accountants to inform clients about utilising the free services offered by the OTO to resolve disputes with SARS.
