Qualifications Required for Business Rescue Practitioners

The Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC) issued a reminder that to become a licensed Business Rescue Practitioner (BRP), applicants must meet specific educational requirements.

According to regulation 126(4), applicants must hold a professional qualification in a relevant field such as law, accounting, or business management. The minimum qualification is a bachelor’s degree at NQF level 7, endorsed by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).

Foreign qualifications must be verified by SAQA to ensure they meet the required NQF level. Short courses, seminars, or workshops do not qualify as professional qualifications for BRP licensing. Only applicants meeting these criteria will be considered for licensing by the CIPC.
