What sparked your interest in accounting or finance?
My interest in accounting was sparked by my desire to develop strong business management skills and build a foundation for success as an entrepreneur.

Can you share some key career milestones or defining moments?

  • Obtaining my first audit clerk role while still in university.

  • Earning a first-class degree, which opened the door for further studies in the field.

  • Stepping into a leadership role in a new environment at Marais Mutasa Advisory.

What is your role within your company’s finance department?
Accounting Supervisor

How do you contribute to the overall financial strategy of the business?
Overseeing the company's client portfolio to ensure satisfaction and maintain strong business relationships.

What is one of the biggest challenges you’ve faced in your role? How did you overcome it?
Meeting client deadlines has been one of the biggest challenges. However, effective project planning, along with the use of planning and project management tools, has been instrumental in managing multiple projects and ensuring all deadlines are met.

What tools or strategies do you use to manage the financial operations of the company effectively?
I utilize Monday.com, a project management tool that helps me oversee all company projects and resources while identifying areas for improvement.

Share your strategies for staying balanced, especially during busy periods.
Maintaining focus, effectively planning assignments, getting adequate rest, and following a healthy diet.

What do you enjoy outside of work?
I enjoy soccer and cricket, as well as spending time with friends and family on occasional outings every month or two.

Do you mentor or support other team members in the finance department?
Yes, I actively support my team members, recognizing that everyone has their own goals. When assigning tasks, I ensure they align with each person's growth interests. Additionally, we have open spaces for discussing areas where individuals need assistance to further their development.

What advice would you give to someone aspiring to work in a finance department?
Anyone looking to work in a finance team should be ready to put in extra effort, as the role is highly demanding. It's important to be adaptable, approachable, and able to adjust to different environments. A willingness to learn and accept feedback is essential, as continuous learning is a key part of the job. Strong IT skills are also crucial, given the rapid advancements in the accounting and finance industry, and the ability to adapt to change is a must.

I ensure that I get adequate rest so my mind can perform at its best when needed.

If you could relive one day from your career, which day would it be and why?
My graduation day was a significant milestone, as it set the foundation for my future.
