How to Correct Mistakes on Income Tax Returns

Did you know you can fix mistakes on your submitted Income Tax Return? SARS offers a “Request Correction” function on eFiling, allowing taxpayers to revise and resubmit their return if they made an error during the initial submission.

However, you cannot request a correction in certain cases, including when:

  • The return is in an issued or saved state.

  • There’s an ongoing verification or audit.

  • SARS has already performed an agreed estimate or finalized an audit.

  • Supporting documents have been submitted for an active verification.

Once you submit a correction, your eFiling status will update to “Correction Filed,” confirming the changes.

For a smoother tax process, make sure to review your return carefully before submitting.
